Abstract
A quantitative radioimmune assay for the mouse mammary tumor virus (MTV) has been developed. The assay used highly purified MTV virions which were enzymatically externally labeled with 125I. The radioimmune precipitation (RIP) of 125I-MTV with anti-MTV was specifically inhibited with unlabeled MTV. The degree of inhibition of RIP was directly related to the quantity of unlabeled MTV added. The assay reproducibly detected as little as 5 ng of intact virus. The RIP of 125I-MTV with anti-MTV was not inhibited by murine mammary cell extracts, milk, or “C-type” virus particles. Important variables in this system are discussed.
