Abstract
There have been three previous workshop sessions on the nomenclature of Ia antigens, each held as a special session of a larger workshop or meeting, and reports from each of these nomenclature sessions have been published (1–3). The reader is referred to these references for a detailed listing of the agreements and recommendations for Ia nomanclature reached at each of these previous sessions. The present session was held in order to review the status of Ia nomenclature, to discuss nomenclature problems that have arisen since the last such session, and to discuss the need for any possible changes in nomenclature to accommodate the rapid expansion that is still occurring in the field of Ia antigens. This report is a summary of the topics discussed.
