At IMMUNOLOGY2023, the annual meeting of the American Association of Immunologists, the esteemed Dr. Anthony Fauci took the stage to deliver his top 10 lessons from COVID-19, particularly as they relate to pandemic preparedness. Among many lessons specific to COVID-19, the presentation also included his perspective on the importance of prior scientific advances to enable rapid countermeasure development and research on prototype pathogens to enable preparedness. In addition, the need to increase attention to the human–animal interface as it relates to zoonotic diseases was highlighted. This issue of The Journal of Immunology includes four Brief Reviews (1–4) on the immunology of zoonotic diseases and relevant veterinary models of human disease, with the intent to feature research on diseases that lie at the interface of human and animal health.
