Attempts to Obtain Specific Agglutination of Mixtures of Collodion Particles or Bacterial Cells with Virus and Antiviral Serum¹

When collodion particles or bacterial cells were mixed with influenzal virus and then exposed to immune serum from man or ferret, specific flocculation was not observed although a variety of technics was employed. Nor was specific flocculation noted when the Lansing strain of poliomyelitic virus and serum from immune monkeys were studied under similar conditions.

Specific flocculation was not obtained when the bacterial-cell-agglutination (B.A.) method was employed in tests using the above-mentioned materials or in tests using sera from immune rabbits and the viruses of St. Louis encephalitis or eastern equine encephalitis.
