Using newborn and 3-week-old colostrum-deprived pigs from actively immunized sows, both indirect and direct evidence for transplacental transfer of antibodies was obtained. In addition, the finding of specific antibodies in the sera of newborn colostrum-deprived pigs from a passively immunized sow is offered as conclusive proof of transplacental transfer of antibodies in swine.
