Glial cultures were prepared as follows: cells were dissociated from the cerebral cortex of 1-day-old C57BL/6 mice, carefully removing meninges tissue, and were cultured in poly-d-lysine-coated tissue culture flasks (two brains per 85-cm2 flask) in medium supplemented with DMEM, 4 mM l-glutamine, 50 U/ml penicillin, 50 μg/ml streptomycin, 10 mM HEPES, 1 mM sodium pyruvate, 10 mM nonessential amino acids, 57.2 μM 2-ME (Sigma-Aldrich, St. Louis, MO), and 10% FCS.
