Using rabbit antisera to C1 we have found antigenic similarities between human and guinea pig C1̄. With one rabbit anti-guinea pig C1 antiserum an antigenic difference between cell bound and fluid phase human C1̄ has been demonstrated. This antigenic difference may reflect a conformational change in the human C1̄ molecule as a result of binding to antigen-antibody complexes at the cell surface.
