Dissociation of T Cell Helper Function and Delayed Hypersensitivity

The effect of tolerization with varying doses of deaggregated protein carrier on two T cell functions—delayed hypersensitivity (DHS) to the carrier and helper functions for the secondary anti-hapten antibody response to a hapten carrier conjugate—was studied. It was found that high doses of tolerogen inhibit the development of both DHS and helper function, while low doses of tolerogen inhibit the development of helper function but not of DHS.
