1. The effects of peptone, yeast extract, amino acids, glucose, and the temperature of incubation on sulfonamide bacteriostasis have been studied.

  2. Variation of the temperature of incubation away from an optimum enhanced sulfonamide action.

  3. The antisulfonamide action of peptone and yeast extract was closely related to their ability to improve the environment of the test organism.

  4. An increase in the concentration of amino acids resulted in truesulfonamide inhibition.

  5. The significance of these results has been discussed.
