Summary
We succeeded in performing complement-fixation tests, using sterile filtrate of H. pertussis culture as the antigen.
We demonstrated that mild peptic digestion easily destroyed the complement-fixing antibodies in immune rabbit and horse sera without impairing the titer of the antitoxic antibodies.
The antigen present in filtrates of H. pertussis culture and responsible for the complement-fixation test was highly resistant to digestion with pepsin in acid medium.
