Adaptation of the Seerey Type A prime strain of influenza virus to mice is accompanied by changes in the growth curve of the virus. The acquisition of an accelerated growth curve occurs concomitantly with the ability to produce extensive pulmonary consolidation in 4 days. Following 1 or 2 additional serial passages in mice the virus acquires an ability to produce a marked lethal effect.
